Richard Boyce's innovative media project takes a first hand look at British Columbia’s central coast, its natural features, the weather, the currents, the wildlife, and the people who live there. The filmmaker’s personal journeys into this remote wilderness focus on the coastal areas where the Enbridge Corporation is proposing to navigate hundreds of supertankers loaded with millions of barrels of Diluted Bitumen (Dilbit) from Alberta’s Tarsands to China via Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada.  Learn more about the project at: www.CoastalTarSands.ca - where you can watch the 10-min. segments of the documentary as they were being produced.

From Jason Mogus via June Ross
(organized by 350.org) Next weekend (June 27-29, 2014) indigenous peoples and allies from across Turtle Island will gather in Fort McMurray, Alberta in the heart of the Canadian tar sands, not to protest but to pray for healing.
We invite you to join us for the 5th and Final Tar Sands Healing Walk (June 27th-29th), to walk with us and pray for the land together. The Final Healing Walk is a part of a new beginning, to spread the healing to other communities who are impacted by resource extraction. FRIDAY, APRIL 4, 2014 - NOON, ACROSS ONTARIO: "JOIN THE FIGHT AGAINST HYDRO RATES"
From John McCullough, Kim Lian:
On Friday April 4, 2014, beginning at 12:00 noon, over 24 communities across the province have organized and hundreds of neighbouring communities will be joining forces, to make their voices heard in regards to the outrageous escalation of Hydro Rates in Ontario. Hydro rates affect every resident, business and organization and the massive escalation of costs are contributing to lost manufacturing jobs, business closures, rising prices, bankruptcies and undue hardships for business, agriculture and residential ratepayers, especially in the rural areas of Ontario. The “Join the fight against Hydro Rates” Facebook group was created by a couple of ladies in Dryden, Ontario and has quickly grown in momentum and membership, united with a common anger and outrage over escalating Hydro rates and surcharges, Hydro One billing issues and customer service and lack of accountability.
Businesses, large and small, are suffering due to the escalating charges as well, and
we encourage all business to close down at noon on Friday, April 4, 2014 and join the fight to save their business from oppressive hydro charges.  Bring your hydro bills – new and old.  It’s time to demand to be heard! A silent voice is heard by no one.
For Ottawa
and surrounding area, the rally is at 2249 Carling Avenue in front of Liberal Energy Minister “Buffalo Bob” Chiarelli’s office.  Carpooling is recommended.  Contact Beth Trudeau at 613-229.3236 or through Facebook “Join the fight against Hydro rates”, Ottawa event.
For the Carleton Place rally, the protesters are asked to gather at the new Farmers’ Market just off Lake Avenue East at noon. Contact Doug Leitch at 613-913-2863 or through Facebook “Join the fight against Hydro rates”, Carleton Place event.

QUOTES

"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act."
-
George Orwell

* * *

"The civilized have created the wretched, quite coldly and deliberately, and do not intend to change the status quo; are responsible for their slaughter and enslavement; rain down bombs on defenseless children whenever and wherever they decide that their "vital interests" are menaced, and think nothing of torturing a man to death: these people are not to be taken seriously when they speak of the 'sanctity' of human life, or the 'conscience' of the civilized world." - James Baldwin, Source: page 489 of COLLECTED ESSAYS (1998), from chapter one of "The Devil Finds Work" (orig. pub. 1976)

"Since world war two we've managed to create history's first truly global empire. This has been done by the corporatocracy, which are a few men and women who run our major corporations and in doing so also run the U.S. government and many other governments around the world." - John Perkins, 2005, author of the book titled 'Confessions of and Economic Hit Man'

In the struggle of Good against Evil, it's always the people who get killed. - Eduardo Galeano

"It's not enough to have lived. We should be determined to live for something. May I suggest that it be creating joy for others, sharing what we have for the betterment of personkind, bringing hope to the lost and love to the lonely." - Leo Buscaglia, author and university professor (1924-1998)
